“The green” design influence has bought our expertise
to another level.
Rogers
Design Group’s Designers all share
in the belief that design requires
detailed interior millwork and
structural embellishment
along with the interior elements. “We
integrate interior design into
every facet of our projects to give
each interior a personalized
space” says
Lorraine Rogers-Bolton. The firm
was established in 1980 and continues
to create award winning design
throughout Florida, New York
and the Caribbean. “Our
commitment to originality insures
each client that their design
will never be repeated again”.
The
creative process is constantly
nurtured in their new Palm Beach
Gardens Studios. Completed
in early 2006 integrating “Green
Design” elements
including natural stone, recyclable
carpets, low V.O.C. paint, wood
floors derived from protected
forests and lighting that ensures
a healthy physical and emotional
environment. All Designers maintain
they have never been more prolific
in their creativity. Lorraine
Rogers-Bolton quotes “We
designed our own offices as a
palette to paint our finest design”.
Every detail was a Rogers Design
Group original design. Beginning
with the space planning and the
three-dimensional millwork design
of the floating ceilings, cylindrical
design room and custom millwork,
no detail was overlooked.
Sustainable Green Design
IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN
By Lorraine Rogers-Bolton
Rogers Design Group, located in
Palm Beach Gardens is an environmentally-responsible firm
who are committed to constantly try to diminish their designs impact on the
world around us.
With rising gas prices and growing concerns about
the global environment everyone is thinking of ways to become more earth
friendly, and this extends all the way to interior design where there is
a green? revolution beginning. Green
design is design that goes beyond being just efficient, attractive, on time
and on budget. It is a design that cares about how such goals are achieved,
about its effect on people and on the environment. Interior Designers
have the opportunity to design, re-design or re-furnish homes
with environmentally friendly products and materials that can actually have
a healthy impact on clients and the planet. The following are some basic
sustainable design practices that designers consider as they incorporate
sustainable practices into their work.
Make a more ecologically sound choice of wood from a supplier who can verify
through a chain of custody that the original trees came from an ecologically
sustainable forest managed under guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council.
Specify "green" paint and other finishing materials that have documented
levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), or chemical
emitting materials, that are the lowest levels possible, and the rate of their
emissions -- or dissipation -- is as fast as possible. Specify paints and finishes
that do not contain formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.
Specify sustainable fabrics that support the use of materials from rapidly
renewable, post-consumer or post-industrial sources.
Use rapidly renewable flooring products such as bamboo or linoleum to help
reduce the amount of land and resources dedicated to producing construction
materials.
Specify energy-efficient appliances such as dishwashers and refrigerators
with the Energy Star rating.
Design around standard product sizes to reduce material waste.
Consider the recyclability of all materials used
to redirect their "next
life" away from landfills.
Rogers
Design Group is putting their green practices to work in their new office
scheduled to open in early 2006 by using many of the above mentioned methods,
including specifying the use of green? water-based paint throughout, wood
floors, commercial carpet that contains recycled content and Energy Star appliances. At
Rogers Design Group we understand the environmental impact that
our designs can have and wanted to make a conscious effort in our new space
to incorporate green selections.
The U.S. Green Building Council states that the built
environment is growing globally at a rate that is three times faster than
the growth rate of the population and that buildings have a huge impact,
consuming between 30 to 40 percent of all energy used, adding 30 to 40 percent
of atmospheric emissions and using up to 30 percent of all raw materials. With the help of programs
that promote Green Design awareness, such as the U. S. Green Building Council's
(USGBC) LEED Rating System and the AIA's COTE Awards, the building community
will soon come to the same conclusion: the economics and qualitative advantages
inherent in green design can no longer be denied. Green Design is worth
it!!

Rogers Design Group's New Facility 1st Quarter 2006
Rogers
Design Group interior design offices have been located in Palm
Beach Gardens for the past six years. They have relocated to their
new 4,000 sq. ft state
of the art design offices early in 2006 at the Mirasol Town Square.
"Our
space is more than doubling to create an ideal design environment
for our group of ten". The presentation room is designed to have wireless
projector presentation along with sketch pads that can transfer their images
to the 60-inch flat screen monitor to insure our clients the ability to see
each design concept very clearly. All the designers will be able to sketch
an idea spontaneously in a three-dimensional format with AutoCAD that will
simultaneously be displayed on the 60-inch monitor.
Our
design concept for the new office
features the smart design that we
have become well known for such
as dramatic contrast of the finest
contemporary, interior embellishments
that is complimented by classically
traditional furnishings and details.
These practices represent our design philosophy.
Since starting the firm in 1976,
Ms. Rogers goal has been to not
pigeon hole our designs into a particular
signature look. "My
entire staff and I understand the
finest in contemporary as well as
traditional, or even period design".
We have been fortunate to accomplish
award winning projects in the finest
of each school of design. A hand-blown
chandelier designed by Lorraine
Rogers-Bolton in Murano, Italy will
hang from the dome ceiling in the reception
area over an antique oriental rug
from Persia. Ebony covered walls will
surround the space as well. Unique cube
shaped recessed lighting and linear air
diffusers will add to the design
details.
"We
will be designing in the round," our brainstorming space consists
of an 18 ft. diameter area complete with all catalogs, fabric and samples
at our fingertips. A floating circular dropped ceiling will provide efficient
halogen lighting and acoustical sound control directly above the design table.
Individual islands for each design team will float around the circular space
for design preparations. Halogen spotlights suspended from stainless steel
tracks and cables will strategically light each island and work space.
The
commercial design division will have its own dedicated offices. This space
will consists of carpet, furnishings and samples appropriate for medical and
dental offices, restaurants as well as corporate spaces.
Over
the years, Rogers Design Group has won recognition and awards for several
dental, medical and hospitality projects as well as the ASID Designer of the
Year Award, Prism, Medallion, Aurora, and National Home Builders
Association Best Designer Award for Residential Design.
